Looking Into the Light – An Introduction to Silverlight 1.0

Next Tuesday (July 31) I will be presenting on Silverlight to the PTNUG user
group in Greensboro, NC. If you’re in the area, come out and say hi!

Looking Into the Light – An Introduction to Silverlight 1.0

Silverlight™ is a new Microsoft® technology for delivering rich, cross-platform
interactive experiences for the Web and beyond. Silverlight™ enables the creation
of rich, visually stunning and interactive content and applications that run on multiple
browsers and operating systems. In this session, learn more about the benefits from
a developer perspective and get an introduction to building applications using XAML,
JavaScript and Microsoft developer and designer tools.

Congratulations Scott!

A big shout out of congratulations goes out to Scott Hanselman following
his recent
that he is joining ScottGu’s Developer Division team at Microsoft.

I’ve enjoyed reading Scott’s blog and listening to him at conferences for a number
of years now, and have always respected his thoughtful insight into Microsoft
technology and how it’s used. Scott is one of those voices that has always been both
balanced fair, and I have not doubt his “Blue Badge” will not change a thing.

I think right now, more important than any single technology is the quality team
of people that Microsoft is assembling, smart people that are passionate about what
they do, doing what they love to do.

Live Search for Mobile

Forget the iphone, the latest version of Live
Search for Mobile
is the killer app for mobile phones! This FREE program
is the ultimate tool for local searches, you know to find the closest coffee
shop, pub, dry cleaners, etc providing both the location and contact information.

It’s more than just a text search though, it’s mapping capabilities rock! Combining
search with Virtual Earth mapping. Paired with a Blue Tooth GPS receiver, the
application turns your phone into a turn-by-turn GPS routing solution.

hmpg_app_maps With
direct info on Traffic, Movies, and more – this takes mobile to a whole new level.
Great job!

If you have a Windows mobile phone, this is a must have! Check
it out

Raleigh Durham WPF/Silverlight/Blend Group?

In addition to the local .NET fun that takes place at the Triangle .Net User Group,
I’m looking to get a group of interested people together on a regular basis to take
a somewhat more focused and advanced look into WPF and Silverlight. If you are in
the area and working with WPF, Silverlight, Blend, or related topics I would be very
interested in hearing from you. I’m especially interested in people coming at the
from more of the design side than the typical developer would. If you’re interested,
please leave a comment or drop me a note. If you have space and would like to host
such a meeting, please let me know as well!
